This bug can be controlled in a Windows environment with the Lazy Nezumi plugin which allows better control of smoothing, however no such plugin exists for Mac. The only way to create a smooth consistently tapered stroke is to turn off smoothing completely which results in segmented curves— so that too is no solution.i have brought this issue up repeatedly.
