563 Shares Share Tweet Copy Link Copiedfans were heartbroken back when it looked like the DC animated show would never receive a third season. This was massively disappointing because the show is legitimately great, and the second season ending with such a promising cliffhanger added insult to injury. But hope was on the horizon for the show, and it didn't require a Blue Lantern.- the upcoming DC and Warner Bros. Streaming service - is bringing the fan-favorite animated show back to life for a third season.

Young Justice absolutely deserves a resurrection, but so does another modern DC animated show: Green Lantern: The Animated Series. Hal Jordan's first animated show lasted for just one season, reportedly ending because of lackluster toy sales. Over the course of 26 episodes, the Emerald Knight explored the galaxy with his allies as they clashed with Atrocitus and his Red Lanterns, the powerful Anti-Monitor, Manhunters, and more. Unlike the 2011 live-action Green Lantern movie, Green Lantern: The Animated Series barely spent any time on Earth. The action-packed and character-driven series zipped right past the usual origin story and secret identity storyline so it could fully embrace the vast Green Lantern mythos.RELATED. GL: TAS was technically a show for all ages, but that doesn't mean the storylines were handled with kid gloves. In true Green Lantern fashion, the series' storylines displayed what it means to be brave and selfless, the importance of love and hope, and the dangers of giving in to fear, greed, hurt, and rage.

It delivered on the emotional elements big time. In just the second episode, a Green Lantern sacrifices his own life to save his people before their planet is destroyed by the Red Lanterns.

Pretty heavy stuff for a kids show, right? That's just scratching the surface of its more compelling moments. The show had a bunch of exciting action sequences and amusing banter between Hal and Kilowog, but it doesn't forget that at the end of the day, it's all about being a hero and doing the right thing, no matter what the cost may be. The first major storyline - which revolves around the bloodthirsty Atrocitus - is spent developing the main characters and the unique universe.

While the show has a clear love for the source material and sprinkles in plenty of fan service, it also introduces two brand new characters: The Red Lantern Razer and A.I. Aya, a pair of polar opposites.

Razer is overwhelmed by anger and loss; Aya is emotionless but curious about the passion that organic beings experience. As the two grow, so does their connection. On paper, the relationship between the duo may sound pretty weird, but the storyline is handled really well and delivers some incredibly touching moments, especially towards the end of the season.

It may be about an alien and an A.I. In space, but the themes are relatable; no matter how surreal the situations may be, the main characters are all humanized. RELATED:The first half of the season is a (mostly) fun adventure as Hal, Kilowog, Razer, and Aya explore new planets and locations while facing new threats and making new allies as they try to stop the Red Lanterns. The universe and its characters are fleshed out more and more until the epic confrontation with Atrocitus and an enormous armada.

As Hal has a brutal brawl with the powerful leader of the Red Lanterns, Kilowog dares to take on the entire fleet of enemy ships all by himself. Luckily for the Green Lantern Drill Sergeant, two formidable allies come to his aid: Saint Walker and Mogo. Obviously, the scene is totally cheerworthy and unforgettable. Green Lantern The Animated Series Reboot

Contents RebootThe Anti MonitorThe threat of the Anti-Monitor leads Hal to try to assemble Kilowog, Tomar-Re and Aya as a team to help the new Honor Guard.SynopsisTomar-Re and Hal Jordan fly to a planet in Tomar-Re's sector after a week of Honor Guard training. Opening another Manhunter bunker, Hal and Tomar-Re discover the same layout as in the Manhunter bunker on Earth, until the three Manhunters re-activate in front of them. A second triad of robots join the first before the two Green Lanterns escape and report back to Oa.The Guardians of the Universe back on Oa are adamant - the Manhunters were banished and deactivated, not kept in isolated storage throughout the universe. Hal convinces the Guardians to release the Interceptor back to him, and assemble a small team to investigate. Hal immediately goes to Kilowog, who is back training new Green Lanterns.

Hal challenges Sargeant Kilowog to use his best recruit against him, and the burly GL calls for sector recruit 1014 - a sentient squirrel. After the squirrel speedily throws Hal around and knocks him to the ground, Kilowog says he was going to go with Hal Jordan anyway. When the two board the Interceptor, they discover Aya the ship's navigational AI has been replaced with the Lightspeed Astronomical Navigational Operating System (LANOS). A 'test flight' by the new AI convinces Hal and Kilowog that they've got to get Aya back, now. However, the robot is scheduled for disassembly by the Guardians.

Landing near the Science Building on Oa, Hal and Kilowog bluff their way past sentry Green Lantern recruit 017 - a human-sized caterpillar-type creature named Larvox - and inside to the lab holding Aya. There Hal opens the container he was holding, allowing the squirrel GL from before into the lab and through access tubes to the cell holding Aya. Interrupted by GL Chaselon, a spherical gem-like sentient, Hal is forced to deceive Chaselon and engage in small talk while the other squirrel GL switches Aya's datacore in her robotic head with LANOS' datacore that Hal took out of the Interceptor. Hal and the squirrel GL leave just as the Guardian overseeing Aya's disassembly arrives.

LANOS' protests in Aya's body are ignored by the female Guardian.Back on board the Interceptor, Hal Jordan and Kilowog are joined by Tomar-Re, who informs the team that he has discovered an antimatter wave carrier signal that could be the reason the Manhunters have been reactivating. Tomar-Re has triangulated the signal back to the planet Biot. When the three GLs arrive in the Interceptor, it is only minutes before hundreds of formerly deactivated Manhunters start chasing them around the planet. Escaping the airborne Manhunters by fleeing into another Manhunter bunker, the GLs discover a reactivated Manhunter factory, assembling more Manhunters to join the ancient robots. Caught between the Manhunters outside still trying to get in, as well as the new Manhunters coming at them from inside, Hal Jordan calls for Aya to use the Interceptor's main gun to clear an escape route for the GLs.Their victory is brief, however, as the Anti-Monitor rises from within the factory, boasting of his destroying a universe and using the Manhunters to destroy this one, turning everything into antimatter that it consumes. Aya fires the Interceptor's main gun again, but the Anti-Monitor is only knocked back.
